The Whiskey Fields: the AA couple

Continuing my catalogue of those nice folks in AA

Recovering alcoholics are as insecure and dependent as teenagers. Our spiritual, mental, and emotional infancy decreases the ability to maintain individualism. When alcoholics can’t drink alcohol, they glom onto the next thing that gives them comfort…and nothing beats the comfort of companionship. I’m talking about the romantic relationships of the Alcoholics Anonymous couple.

As individuals, they held a separate identity (obviously). But the AA romance-cosmos fused them together and they managed to defy mathematical logic by suggesting how 1 + 1 = 1. At meetings, they will always, without fail, mention the failures of their ex-spouses to further champion the superhero they have handpicked among the degenerates in the room. And even though—or maybe because—they’re hard on the eyes, you can’t help but picture them in the sheets—it’s like an MC Escher mind-fuck.
